Standard Features
Exceed Industry Standards
At The Cookson Company we only build one kind of Rolling Service Door, heavy
duty. Every service door we build includes: 50,000 life cycle design,
structural angle guides and bottom bar, cast gears and stops, fabricated
steel plate brackets, 20 psf windloading and our exclusive FinalCote finish.
The Cookson family has spent 60 years manufacturing premium rolling door
products that have endured the test of time.
Effortless Operation
Cookson doors are recognized in the industry as being the easiest to
operate. Premium ball bearings, balance designs, and precision construction
ensure efficient, trouble-free use with minimal maintenance. Door size,
building design and operational requirements should determine the operator
type.

A Unique System For
Maximum Insulation Cookson's insulated doors are manufactured with a process
that is used by no other insulated door manufacturer, Cookson doors keep
thermal losses to an absolute minimum. Although most door manufacturers use
foamed-in-place insulation, Cookson uses solid insulation of the highest
quality available with a flame spread not greater than 25 and smoke
generation less than 50. Complete coverage and consistent density are
assured by a piece of insulation placed between galvanized steel slats. A
flexible, solid foam astragal fits into the guides at the bottom of the door
to assure a complete seal across the opening. Seepage of air around the hood
is minimized by a waterproof hood baffle that resists tearing and cracking
and maintains flexibility in winter. The Cookson insulation system also
includes snap-on guide weatherstripping made of heavy duty vinyl extrusions
that are designed to reduce air infiltration and dust at any temperature.
While providing
energy efficiency, Cookson Insulated Doors also offer aesthetic appeal with
a finished appearance inside and out. Our exclusive interlocking slat design
allows for many combinations of gauges. While a 22 gauge exterior slat with
a 22 gauge interior slat is standard, 20 gauge and 18 gauge exterior slats
are also available.

PURPOSE OF A
SAFETYEDGE
The purpose of a rolling door or grille safetyedge is to reverse the closing
action if the door or grille comes in contact with an obstruction. The very
first safetyedges operated pneumatically, then they were engineered to
operate electrically, now The Cookson Company introduces a new wave in
safetyedge design - Phantom FeatheredgeTM - the very first device
using air wave technology. All it takes is a slight depression in the
Phantom Featheredge to create the necessary wave motion which sends a signal
to the control panel and immediately reverses the closing action of the door
or grille. And, it's cordless!
OTHER SAFETYEDGES ARE UNRELIABLE
Some of the reasons a traditional safetyedge might fail are:
The power cord has
been damaged or is simply not connected.
The safetyedge has
been torn or punctured.
The safetyedge
contacts have corroded.
The temperature has
effected the pressure required to activate the safetyedge.
The Cookson Company Phantom Featheredge
will not fail for any of these reasons because; it does not require a
connecting power cord to function; it will operate properly even if
punctured or torn; it has no contacts to corrode; and variations in
temperature will not effect its operating sensitivity. Can you afford to
take a chance with safety? Of course you can't. Always specify Cookson
rolling doors and grilles with Phantom Featheredge. The only safetyedge with
air wave technology that does not require a connecting power cord.
BENEFITS WITH PHANTOM FEATHEREDGE
More Sensitive - Phantom Featheredge does not rely on pressure, electrical
contacts, or volumes of air to activate a switch to reverse the door or
grille. Air wave technology activates the reversing action with minimal
impact. Resists an Electrical Malfunction - Today's electrical safetyedges
can malfunction if the covering is torn away allowing water to enter the
device.
Reliable Contact Operation - Because
there are no electrical contacts, it is impossible for corrosion or tearing
to render the Phantom Featheredge inoperable.
Doesn't Rely on Temperature of Pressure -
The Phantom Featheredge does not depend on air volume for activation,
therefore, temperature changes do not effect the operation of the device.
Not Effected by Punctures or Tears -
Small punctures or tears which so often occur in traditional safetyedges
will not inhibit dependable operation of the Phantom Featheredge.
Does Not Require a Connecting Power Cord
- Until now, all safetyedge devices required a power cord connected to the
motor control panel. These unsightly cords usually hang in the door opening
and often become disconnected, rendering the safetyedge device inoperable.
The Phantom Featheredge does not require a connecting power cord.
Fail-Safe Reliability - The Phantom
Featheredge device has a built-in feature to ensure the door or grille will
not close on an object even if for some reason the safetyedge becomes
inoperable. If the device is not completely functional, the fail-safe
feature indicates a problem by requiring constant pressure on the close
button to activate the system.
